New Standards for CPD coming in 2023

The Medical Board of Australia (MBA) has revised the registration standard for CPD with the introduction of CPD Home effective from January 2023.

All doctors in Australia will be required to nominate an accredited CPD home that is relevant to their scope of practice at the time of registration renewal.

One of the key changes will be the introduction of requiring doctors to write a Professional Development Plan (PDP), which doctors will be expected to review annually.

The following changes have been made to the allocation of hours:

  1. 12.5 hours (25% of hours) recorded under Educational Activities
  2. 25 hours (50% of hours) recorded across Reviewing Performance and Reflecting on Practice and Measuring and Improving Outcomes (with a minimum of 5 hours for each category)
  3. the remaining 25% (12.5 hours) distributed across any of the three types of CPD.

The ACP will be submitting an application to MBA for the College CPD program to become an accredited CPD Home.

The College will be keeping the triennium structure with a provision of doctors to be meeting the minimum 50 hours per annum of CPD activities to meet the MBA requirement.

The revised registration standard can be downloaded here.

Applications are due in October 2022 and we will keep you updated on the outcome.
