MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION


Membership with the Australasian College of Phlebology provides access to many services which are relevant to medical practitioners who are interested in Phlebology.
There are a number of different membership classes to incorporate a variety of professionals working in areas related to phlebology.

Membership Categories

Fellow
A registered Medical Practitioner of a State or Territory of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or Fiji who has met the requirements of the College as a Phlebologist.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
1. Was a current Fellow of the Australasian College of Phlebology Incorporated at the date of registration of this Company; OR
2. Completed the Fellowship training program of the College and has met all of the training requirements of the College; OR
3. May be obtained by application to the College and awarded at the discretion of the College Board.

The Applicant will be required to satisfy the following criteria:

a) Demonstrate current recognition as a Specialist in one or more fields related to phlebology e.g. Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Dermatology, Vascular Medicine and Haematology. Consideration may also be given to applicants possessing special qualifications in related scientific fields, and
b) Demonstrate currency of practice in Phlebology or a related field as evidenced by submission of a summary report of such activities during at least the preceding twelve months, and
c) Applicants who meet the criteria–a - b above may be required to sit an examination and/or interview as determined by the Board.


4. Should a Fellowship lapse, it will be a requirement to re- apply to the Board and meet all criteria as set out above and pay an administration fee as prescribed by the College Board. At the discretion of the Board, the applicant may be required to sit a reaccreditation examination and/or interview as determined by the Board. Once criteria have been met the annual Fellowship fee will be payable. Recognised Specialists not wishing to complete these requirements may apply for Affiliate Fellowship.

All Fellows will be required to satisfy the Continuing Education requirements as required by the law.

Voting Rights

Emeritus Fellow
A person who is retired and has given long and distinguished service to the College or specialty of Phlebology or an allied field.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
1. The Board may, by a two- thirds majority of the members of the Board, elect as an Emeritus Fellow, a person who has given long and distinguished service to the specialty of Phlebology and has retired from clinical practice.
2. Nomination of a Fellow Emeritus shall only be made by a Fellow to whom the candidate for appointment is personally known.
3. A Fellow Emeritus shall not be required to pay any annual membership fee or to satisfy the College’s continuing education requirements.

Voting Rights

Honorary Fellows
A person who has given long and distinguished service to the College or to the field of Phlebology.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
1. The Board may, by a two- thirds majority of the members of the Board, elect as an Honorary Fellow, either:
a) a Fellow of the College who has given long and distinguished service to the College
b) a person who has given long and distinguished service to the field of Phlebology in general.
c) a person of renown, distinguished member of the medical profession or other eminent person whose professional skills and experience are deemed by the Board to assist the College with achieving its objects.
2. Nomination of a Honorary Fellow shall only be made by a Fellow to whom the candidate for appointment is personally known
3. Honorary Fellow shall not be required to pay any annual membership fee or to satisfy the College’s continuing education requirements.

Voting Rights

Affiliate Fellows
A person in a related field to Phlebology and is otherwise not entitled to be described as a Phlebologist.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
The Board may by a two- thirds majority of the members, elect as an Affiliate Fellow of the College a person who is a medical practitioner in a related field to Phlebology and is a person who is registered as a Medical Practitioner anywhere within the Commonwealth of Australia or New Zealand and is otherwise not entitled to be described in accordance with the Rules of the College as a Phlebologist.

Voting Rights
No voting rights. Cannot propose or second motions. Cannot be elected to the Board.

 

International Fellow
A Medical Practitioner who works and resides outside of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or Fiji and has reached the equivalent standard in training and experience as that of a Fellow practicing and residing in either Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea of Fiji as at the date of the Board’s determination.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
The Board may by a two- thirds majority of members present, elect as an International Fellow of the College a Medical Practitioner who works and resides outside of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or Fiji and has reached the equivalent standard in training and experience as that of a Fellow practicing and residing in either Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or Fiji as at the date of the Board’s determination.

Voting Rights
No voting rights. Cannot propose or second motions. Cannot be elected to the Board.

 

Medical Member
A registered medical practitioner in Australia or New Zealand who has met and satisfied all of the requirements of the College for Basic or Advanced training in Phlebology

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
A person who has met and satisfied all of the requirements of the College for any of the following qualifications of the College:
Certificate of Sclerotherapy
Certificate of Basic Phlebology,
Certificate of Advanced Phlebology
or any other professional course or qualification deemed by the Board to be equivalent

Voting Rights
No voting rights. Cannot propose or second motions. Cannot be elected to the Board.

 

Trainee Member
A person enrolled in a training program operated by the College.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
A person whose enrolment in a training program that is operated by the College may apply to the Board for appointment as a Trainee Member of the College.

Voting Rights
No voting rights. Cannot propose or second motions. Cannot be elected to the Board.

Allied Health Member
An allied health professional in a field related to Phlebology.

Requirements for eligibility for and admission to membership
A person who is not a Medical Practitioner but who is an allied health professional (eg. Sonographer, Nurse, Allied Health Practitioner or Scientist) in a field related to Phlebology, may apply to the Board for appointment as an Allied Health Member of the College.

Voting Rights
No voting rights.Cannot propose or second motions. Cannot be elected to the Board.


Membership Benefits

Annual Conference
The College has an Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) each year in various locations across Australia and New Zealand. The conference is comprised of practical workshops and sessions which cater for both beginners and those who are more experienced. Members receive special discounts for attending the ASM.

Training Program, Courses and Workshops
We have an extensive training program for those who wish to undergo further study in Phlebology.  Access to our online training modules is included for all Fellows of the College. For more detail regarding our training programs, courses or workshops, please go to the Education tab on our website.

Phlebology Journal, SAGE
ACP members have online access to the journal Phlebology, published six times a year by SAGE. Members can access the journal via the members dashboard on our website.

Education Discounts on Meetings
Receive discounts when attending our Annual Scientific Meetings, workshops and courses.

Union Internationale de Phlebologie (UIP Membership)
The Australasian College of Phlebology is a member of the UIP. ACP Members can attend UIP events (International Meetings) at the member rate.

Member Dashboard
The Member Dashboard is a Member ONLY section of our website. This provides access to journals, online member only resources, documents and other information.

CPD Online
The CPD Online feature is available to Members and Fellows to meet their CPD requirements with the College or MBA. Access is available to the CPD Online portal as soon as signed up as a member through the online membership regsitration page or after approval from the Board (Fellows only).

Find a Vein Doctor Database
The public can search for providers that are in their area by searching via our ‘Find a Vein Doctor’ search database where only members of the College are listed.

Standards Documents
The College also aims to improve the delivery of treatments in the area of Phlebology. As such, a number of standards have been development to help guide practitioners in a more structured and informative manner in delivering treatment. These guidelines are available from our website.

Veinews
Veinews is the official newsletter of the ACP. It is issued to all members and consists of various articles regarding the College and events.

ACP Awards
The ACP awards Fellows of the College for recognition of their contributions to the field of Phlebology. These are awarded during our prestigious Conferring Ceremony held during our Annual Scientific Meetings.

AMC Accreditation
In Australia, there is currently no formal recognition for phlebology as a medical specialty. Ultimately, the long term goal of ACP is achieving Australian Medical Council (AMC) recognition of Phlebology as a distinct medical specialty. The recognition process is a long one, requiring significant resources and capital. The College is committed to achieving this aim.
