Since 2000, the ACP has be a driving force in medical education, research and specialist training with the goal of delivering optimum care for patients with venous disease. The ACP welcomes doctors, sonographers and nurses from all areas of medicine and our diverse Membership reflects the broad representation from many medical disciplines, which contributes to the depth and scope of talent within our College.
The ACP has undergone significant changes in its education and training curriculum. The current curriculum is comprehensive and recognised by the Union Internationale De Phlebologie (UIP) as an international benchmark. From 2013, the ACP now offers prospective trainees 4 tiers of training that is modular and integrated. The 4 tiers of training are:
1. Module Completion Certificate (MCC)
2. Sclerotherapy Certificate
3. Diploma of Procedural Phlebology
4. Fellowship
The 4 ACP training pathways are integrated to allow trainees the flexibility to build on the previous ACP training/certification that starts with the Module Completion Certificate and culminates in the Fellowship award. The Certificate of Completion is awarded when trainees successfully complete all the online training modules and pass the summative on-line assessments. Trainees successfully completing the 12-month ACP modules will be awarded the Module Completion Certificate. However additional training (in accredited training centers) along with written and clinical examination is a required component for the Sclerotherapy Certification. Please refer to the Training Program Handbook for detailed information on training pathways and their requirements.
This innovative education/training delivery is possible through the introduction of a carefully planned series of integrated training modules. The new system will enable on-line learning modules with the required information supplied module by module. Each module will run for two weeks with an assessment task at the end of the fortnight. Gradings from these set tasks will constitute 50% of your overall assessment with T/F format questions at the end of semesters 1 and 2 making up the other 50%. There will be a “lecturer-in-charge†of each module. He/she will generally have developed the module, collated the reference material and will be available for a Q&A forum via the ACP website for the two weeks of the module.
With this method of learning, the supplied information can be kept up to date and the knowledge base is no longer restricted to designated text and reference books. Journal articles are one of the best ways of keeping up to date and allow a changing, evolving learning program. Overall, the modular training system is expected to make the learning experience more uniform and consistent.
The Module Completion Certificate is valid for 3 years. Trainees may choose to progress further through the different training stages offered by the ACP. The ACP training program has been extensively reviewed and restructured to conform to the current educational and learning ideals endorsed by the AMC. Trainees are supported by clinical supervisors and are attached to accredited training centres. Summative-In-Training-Assessments, trainee learning plans and work-based assessments are some of the recent changes introduced to ensure that trainees are optimally supported throughout the training program (for more information please refer to ACP Training Handbook).
We are very excited to offer the MCC.
