We are inviting College Fellows to submit their applications with supporting documents to achieve procedural credentialing in Endovenous Laser and Radiofrequency Ablation.
All members have been sent information and application forms if you need these forms please do not hesitate to contact the College office.
Fellows of the College who have met most of the criteria will be issued provisional credentialing up until 1 August 2012 to fulfill the necessary criteria otherwise credentialing will be revoked.
Pre-requisite
Fellowship of ACP. Medical Practitioners who have fulfilled the requirements of Fellowship and are currently listed as financial Fellows of the College.
Requirements for credentialing in EVLA/RFA
1. Logbooks of 100 cases of Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) or Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA). A minimum of 20 cases as the primary operator and the rest as an assistant.
2. Ultrasound Training. Demonstration of adequate knowledge and experience in ultrasound and participation and satisfactory completion of the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme. To demonstrate adequate experience, the practitioner must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
a) Specialist using ultrasound in the practice of phlebology, interventional radiology, vascular medicine or surgery,* or
b) Certificate (CUP) or Diploma of Ultrasound in Phlebology (DUP) or equivalent ultrasound training as offered by the Universities, Colleges or Societies. Only courses with a dedicated vascular/phlebology curriculum (of a minimum of 12 months duration) and an appropriate examination process are acceptable. This does not include short courses offered by commercial, academic or other entities, or
c) Formal certification in ultrasound for example a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) offered by the Australian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM), or
d) Grandfathered by Medicare Australia in provision of ultrasound services.
3. Laser Safety Workshop. Successful completion of a Laser Safety Workshop. Refresher courses to be attended if required by the local legislations of the State or Country where the practitioner maintains medical registration.
4. Emergency Medicine Workshop. To be followed by a refresher course every 3-5 years.
5. ACP Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Active participation in the ACP CPD Program and mandatory reporting of major adverse events and the safety data.
The ACP reserves the right to revoke credentialing if the aforementioned criteria are not adhered to or if the practitioner loses practicing rights or registration.
*’Specialist’ is defined as Fellowship of a New Zealand or Australian Medical Council recognised Specialist College, in Australia recognised for the purposes of Schedule 4 of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975, or equivalent specialist recognition in the country of residence and practice.
