Introduction of the Modular System
Welcome to the Australasian College of Phlebology Training Program. By signing up, you have shown a commitment to learning best practice in the management of venous disease. The ACP was developed with the specific purpose of improving medical education and patient management outcomes. Unlike many colleges, the ACP welcomes doctors from any area of medicine. We are a multidisciplinary college with Fellows and Members coming from a number of specialties – all with the intent and purpose of learning from each other, sharing treatment and management options and ultimately delivering the best possible care to our patients.
This approach and structure makes us unique. We are also different because Membership and Fellowship are voluntary. It is an admirable quality that our registrars display when they choose to self impose the examination system set by the College.
In 2013 the Board of Censors instigated a number of changes to make the learning process more simple and uniform. Our exam system is modular. The system enables on-line learning modules with the required information supplied module by module. Most modules run for two weeks with an assessment task at the end of each fortnight. There will be a “lecturer-in-charge” of each module. He/she will generally have developed the module, collated the reference material and will be available for a Q&A forum via the ACP website for the duration of the module.
With this method of learning, the supplied information can be kept up to date and the knowledge base is no longer restricted to designated text and reference books. Journal articles are one of the best ways of keeping up to date and allow a changing and evolving learning program.
I trust the above information has been helpful and we look forward to working with you throughout the year.
